Book 4 of 4 in the Meeting the Enemy sub-series
"Mai Fisher was born to be a spy. And she’s been a good one. However, she had principles in a world where ethics often must be put aside. Over the years, she’s cast away every one of those principles but could justify her actions.
Now, she’s finding out that when dealing with unprincipled politicians, someone has to maintain the ideals and values of democracy. All that does is get her reassigned, from a black site in Romania to the blackest of all black sites: a detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for the 'worst of the worst' terrorists. No matter. She’s succeeded in obtaining critical intel without using 'enhanced interrogation techniques', and she won’t change her mind about that. Until something unthinkable happens and she casts aside everything she’s ever believed in. Only Alexei Bukharin yet again stands between her and a darkness that might be inescapable."
