Queen Sono is an agent with SOG.
In this instance, that acronym stands for the Specials Operations Group which we are told is an African inter-country intelligence organization, "its mission statement being to protect the security and welfare of all African citizens across the continent, by thwarting any future threats that could undermine their country's independence and growth". It is run by Dr. Sidwell Isaacs, the current Chief Director. Though Queen Sono is dedicated to the mission of the agency, her relationship with the Director is not a happy one owing to the fact that she is certain he has vital information concerning the murder of her mother many years before and is not forthcoming with it.
The Director General of SOG, the actual operations manager, is Miri Dube and her relationship with Sono is better but even then there is some friction because her ideas of how to handle missions is very much at odds with Sono's. Since Sono has so far been successful in her assignments, she has not had formal issues but ...
According to Wikipedia, Sono is "A seasoned field operative of the SOG and daughter of Safiya Sono, a deceased South African anti-apartheid revolutionary leader and freedom fighter. As a young orphan, Queen struggled to comprehend the mystery surrounding her mother's assassination case. Years later, she is recruited by the SOG. Determined to find the answers she seeks, she continues to investigate her family's past and uncover the identity of the true culprit responsible for her mother's death."
Playing an interesting and important role in the missions that Sono finds herself on is Shandu Magwaza, "An ex-SOG spy and the second-in-command for the Gromova crime family, led by Ekaterina Gromova. Shandu had a past relationship with Queen during their field days and before he left the agency".
