ABOUT THE SERIES

Jack is a television actor.

He is the star and main attraction in the incredibly successful and popular "Sci-Fi Spy Guy" which we are told in a blurb for the first recorded adventure is "a major hit in Europe, Australia, America, and ... on the planet Zargon!?"

Turns out more than just Zargon. Apparently quite a few planets way out in space somewhere but still close enough to get the broadcasts [let's just ignore the whole time it takes for radio waves to travel in space]. It seems a whole lot of alien races know and appreciate the tuxedo-clad television spy and his always exciting and death-defying exploits. This is good and bad for Jack because, well, those kid fans in Europe, Australia, and America know that this is just a television shot; it is not real life and Jack is just an actor playing the super cool dude on the screen. On Zargon and other distant planets, apparently not so much!

Oh, I keep saying "Jack" here when talking about the dashing, athletic looking star with long-ish black hair always a tar unruly. I would normally be using his last name but I do not know it. I do not find it being mentioned in either of the adventures out about him. I do not even know the name of the spy character he plays on television, other than he is known as "Sci-Fi Spy Guy" which is kinda cool sounding and rhymes, too.

One other thing I want to mention is the spaceship where lots of what Jack gets involved in either happen or he gets there with it. It is named STEALTH, which stands for Space Tripping Extra Atomic Laser Time Hopper. What does all that mean? Not a clue, except that the first letters all spell 'stealth' which is cool because that is what acronyms are supposed to do [you're welcome!]. STEALTH is super neat. I need one like that, well, except for flying Jack to dangerous spots ... that, no so much.

MY COMMENTS

PR blurbs for these two super-super-short adventures say that they are intended for 8-14 year old readers even as they, moments later, revise that to be 7-8 year old. I would to with the latter. I cannot see many 14-year-old readers being the least bit interested in these tiny tales.

The illustrations accompanying these stories, drawn by talented Anthony Williams, add a lot to the presentation. They also add to the page count which is good because without them these short stories would like just be vignettes.

Short Story or Vignette ... whichever they are, they be expensive!!! I would not have likely paid that kind of money to hand these books to young kids.
