Jake Ellis is ... well, that is pretty tough to encapsulate in a short phrase.
Jon Moore is a freelance spy.
That last one is a lot easier. We are told that at one point Moore was an analyst for the CIA working "the Algiers Bureau" in the Agency. Then on a day like any other, he and 17 other US citizens were snatched by a group unknown and whisked off to "the facility" where strange experiments in remote viewing and who knows what else were conducted on them. Supposedly, the only one known to have survived was Moore and he was barely able to escape thanks to the "appearance" of Jake Ellis who told Moore what to do and when to do it.
It was Ellis who would instruct Moore when to enter a building and what corridor to head down, how to jimmy a lock, when to hide around a corner, and when to charge into an attack. My favorite advise is when Ellis warns Moor to duck. Moore has learned to obey that one immediately.
So now comes the question about Ellis. Is he there with Moore? Yes. Can he be seen or heard by anyone other than Moore? No. Does he know a lot about any given situation? Absolutely. Does he know everything about a situation? Unfortunately, no.
From wherever Ellis came and how ever he is able to do what he does, it all started in the cell in the facility when he just suddenly showed up, sort of in a shadow in Moore's mind, clad in a dark suit and slightly brighter tie; clean-shaven with closely cropped hair and a widow's peak. He appears to be White, like Moore, but then again he is always in the shadows so we cannot be certain. Don't ask about his eyes, though, because all we ever see are black holes there - cool and mysterious and way spooky.
So, Ellis helps Moore escape the facility and for the next four years they have survived by doing freelance espionage work for all sorts of clients and they have stayed off any radars and it has been good. No answers, of course, to who grabbed Moore in the first place and why, or who the heck is Ellis and how in the world is this communications happening. And they both would like to know. Which is pretty interesting because it is understandable that Moore is confused but why is Ellis, who knows so much about lots of stuff, also without any idea what their connection is.
But when I said that they have gone four good years so far ... that grace period is definitely over because a Spanish group is upset with how a case turned out and the Americans are really close to grabbing Moore - for good or bad we do not know - and the folks from the facility are still very much interested in getting Moore back. The good times are definitely over.
Good Lines:
- Said by Moore to Ellis, "You know, for someone who isn't alive, you are damn suicidal."
